Smoking has never been less cool than it is today, but that doesn’t stop multitudes of teenagers from sparking up each year. Maybe it’s the appeal of looking older, or of being rebellious, but 10 percent of Columbia Public Schools’ students have dabbled with tobacco. The outrageous price of cigarettes ($5 per pack and climbing) might not be enough to keep some teens from experimenting with them, so it’s partially up to you as a parent to constantly remind them that smoking will cost them more than money in the long run: health, looks, teeth, years of life… They’ll never have to know how hard it is to stop if they don’t start.
