We know far too well the dangers of alcohol. The thought of your teenage son or daughter getting pressured to drink to fit in, or climbing into a vehicle with an inebriated driver, are almost too much to bear. But those days have arrived. Don’t ignore the opportunity to get on the same page as your blossoming children when it comes to drinking.
One important way to set the parameters is to set the example. It may not seem like it at times (or at all), but your teenagers still look up to you in a big way. These years are so important. Take time to address the issue head-on, as often as possible. Insist they can always call you when they’re in a tough spot – and mean it. Be prepared, be supportive, be honest and, perhaps most importantly, be there.
